Every year, another 340,000 children in the UK are tempted to try smoking. And evidence suggests that they are more likely to be attracted by designed tobacco packs, than by plain packs.
In the Spring the government will consult on this issue to gauge public support. Australia has already legislated for this.
The tobacco industry needs to replace its customers that quit or die. Therefore, it looks to young people to fill this gap. The pack branding is the last area on which marketing can take place.
