NHS Devon and ABC Children’s centre in Buckfastleigh and Ashburton are calling for parents and carers to complete their child’s immunisation programme and ensure they are up-to-date and protected.
As part of the Don’t Hesitate – Vaccinate campaign the children’s centre is hosting four meet and greet sessions where NHS Devon will answer any questions or concerns parents and carers may have.
The campaign reminds parents about the importance of completing their childhood vaccination programme.
Protection against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio can fade over time and the preschool booster tops up children’s protection and this is particularly important when entering a new school community.
It is important to have a second dose of MMR as some children do not respond to the first dose and remain at risk of natural infection.
Tracy Fabiano, NHS Devon’s immunisation coordinator, said: “We have decided to set up the meet and greet sessions because when we asked parents how we could support them make their decisions and they said they wanted to know more about the childhood immunisation programme.
“Many parents and carers didn’t know how important completing the programme is.”
Hannah Parker, a mum from Ashburton, said: “With four children it is easy to forget who has had what but I do prioritise getting them immunised to help keep them safe.”
All parents, grandparents and carers are welcome to attend the immunisation question and answer sessions.
The sessions take place on the following dates:
