Thumbs up for Uffculme school nurses

Youre_welcome

An NHS drop in service for young people in Uffculme has been given the thumbs up by the Government.

The school nurse and youth worker led drop-in service at Uffculme School has been handed the Department of Health’s ‘You’re Welcome’ award for the high quality and young people friendly nature of its services.

The drop-in service provides health support to pupils at the school.

Betsy Allen, responsible for school nursing in NHS Devon, said: “It is great news that our health services at the school have been recognised with this award.

“We want to ensure pupils at Uffculme School and every senior school in Devon get the best possible healthcare.

“The service is very popular with young people, and provides an opportunity for them to discuss health issues, including maintaining good mental health and wellbeing.”

Lorraine Heath, head teacher at Uffulme School, said:

“I am delighted that the health advice available to young people has been recognised in this way.

“Any initiative which supports the emotional and physical wellbeing of young people is to be applauded and the creation of this friendly, professional service is of enormous benefit to the whole school community.”

‘You’re Welcome’ is a national initiative that ensures health services are accessible to young people, and was created to encourage them to feel more confident in using health services.
