Speech and Language Therapy Services

ICS_15

Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Services are provided for both adults and children and include:

  • preventative work at a universal level
  • input for specific speech and language problems e.g. dysfluency (stammering), speech, sound difficulties /delays/disorders.
  • input for speech and language problems associated with another primary disability that require SLT involvement as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Targeted SLT work is delivered in episodes of care, based on the needs of the child or young person and in collaboration with key individuals as below:

  • Referrals are received from a wide variety of agencies and professionals.
  • SLT assessment and therapy programmes are provided by a qualified therapist with clear, specified objectives and outcomes.
  • Some programmes may be delivered directly by the therapist, individually or in a group.
  • Some programmes may be implemented on a day to day basis by a range of partners including parents, carers, education staff and others.
  • Monitoring and review of the programme for each episode of care is undertaken with relevant  partners.

Training

The speech and language therapy service provides a comprehensive range of training to parents, carers and professionals at all levels. This underpins the targeted and specialist levels of therapeutic work.
