NHS Organisations should ensure that equality is everyone’s business and everyone is expected to take an active part, supported by the work of specialist equality leaders and champions.
We are committed to promoting and achieving equality through the planning and business decisions. Also through policies, processes and contracts that are designed to support NHS Commissioners and approved providers to deliver better outcomes for our local communities and better working environments for staff. These take into account the views and diversity of the local population and ensuring equal opportunities for all. We work with our partner agencies to promote this culture and adopt a similar approach to equality wherever possible.
Managers across the organisation are support and motivate staff to work in culturally competent ways. The staff survey specifically identifies concerns about equality and discrimination. Recruitment is supported with NHS guidance and policies allow staff and managers to respect individual needs.
We will aim to develop the capacity and capability of staff within the organisation to assist in the achievement of the agreed values, whilst working effectively and efficiently for our local population in a transparent and fair manner. There is access to leadership programmes across the organisation.
Policies without equality impact assessments are challenged and training and conversations continually take place to ensure a greater awareness of equality issues.
