If you have an illness or injury that won’t go away, make an appointment with your GP.
They provide a range of services by appointment and when absolutely essential can make home visits.
If you become ill outside of normal surgery hours, an answerphone message will refer you to the out-of-hours doctor service.
The out-of-hours doctor should only be contacted for medical problems that cannot wait until the surgery is next open.
“GP practices offer a wide range of health services including examination and treatment, advice for health problems, medicine prescriptions, vaccinations and referrals to other health or social services. “If you have a medical issue and are not sure if it is urgent, remember you can ring NHS Direct or your GP practice for advice. “Outside your GP opening hours you can access a GP by ringing Devon Doctors’ out-of-hours service but this should only be used for urgent health problems that cannot wait until your GP practice re-opens. The service does not deal with repeat prescriptions.” Dr David Jenner, a GP from Cullompton
