Care Quality Commission rates NHS Devon:
The newly-established Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published its annual health check results for 2008/09.
The new assessment has demonstrated that the trust is meeting, and in many cases, exceeding the required standard.
Rebecca Harriott, interim chief executive of NHS Devon, said: “As the main commissioning body for NHS services in Devon we are naturally very pleased that the quality of our commissioning is recognised as being ‘good’.
“Our financial management was rated as ‘fair’.
The CQC report singles out urgent and emergency care together with drug treatment services as among the best in the country.
Achievement of four hour waiting times in A&E, and a maximum 18-week wait for inpatient treatment, is due to the collaboration of the whole healthcare community.
Over the past two years the trust has delivered 400,000 dental places for people in Devon and expects to add a further 46,000 places over the next 12-months or so. Access to GPs has also been improved.
Rebecca said: “I’d like to thank all staff for their ongoing support in achieving this result. None of these achievements would have been possible without their dedication and commitment to the trust – and the wider NHS.
“My thanks also to our many partners throughout the county including our colleagues in other NHS trusts, league of friends, councils and the third or voluntary sector for their continued support.
“We are clearly delivering national healthcare priorities locally and we recognise that services must always have a firm financial platform.
“We are confident that the plans we have in place will further improve both the quality of services and financial performance in future.”
